My Cat

a poem by Fide Erken

My cat sees me
with round, small eyes
over his nose and whiskers
he thinks that
I have big, shapeless eyes
and no whiskers.

My cat pities me
he sleeps on my lap
my hands on his hair
murmurs happily
he doesn’t like
the way I sleep
alone, in the same bed.

My cat pities me
he thinks that
he’s the best cat
I’ve ever seen
but I don’t believe him!
