I Can See

a poem by Anthony Halterman

I can see.
Between the lines of truth.
I can see.
Between your eyes.

I got on the bus.
When I sat down I looked at the seat in front of me.
It was turning into rust.
The people on board you to trust.

Just then I want to talk.
But I couldn’t speak.
Felt a little weak.
From the fumes on the bus.

I can see.
The lies on their faces.
I can see.
The people turning on me.

I look out of the window.
I see a lonely face.
Starring out into space.
Keeping up the pace.

I don’t want to bother you.
But do you have the time.
I seem to have lost mine.
Over the course of time.

I can see.
Between the lines of truth.
I can see.
Between your eyes.

I can see.
The lies on their faces.
I can see.
The people turning on me.

I can see.
The dark is getting brighter.
I can see.
In the far away in the distance of truth.
