What do I see PT!

a poem by Anantha Babu

“What do you see?”
“I see you, blue in each eye.
Sitting reclined under a tree
Smiling at wondrous sky.”

The boy sat with his grandfather beside him
“Although you see I am blind as a bat
Life isn’t always seem to me dim.”
The boy sat silent under his hat.

I see you closing your eyes
Tucking yourself to sleep.
I can see that sparkling surprise
As you dream away somewhere deep.

I can see you play by the pool,
Your laughter sweet and nice.
I can see you at your school,
You cried “I wont go!” twice.

You jump and hop and skip and run
I see you playing and laughing away
And you play some more and you have fun
I see you do that everyday

I see you at your birthday cake,
Which you and your mother cut,
Although she knew not how to bake.
I saw feeding it to your mutt.

I lost my eyes but I have my mind,
I have my memories to see.
People help me they are kind,
But you don’t worry about me.

You grow up and see the world,
A world very little that I saw.
Watch this nature, flowers unfurled,
See it all, make it your law.

The boy nodded his head twice,
As his grand father began to smile.
His wrinkled face turned to him,
And then he stayed a while.
Don’t forget whatever I said,
Don’t forget it at all.
For now ny eyes are dead,
But I don’t let that have me fall.

You have eyes that still have light,
So use it all at well,
Don’t waste it all, not the white,
Because it is only darkness to dwell.

Now we must go homeward,
Because it is time for bed.
Take me now lets go,
Now you sleep over what I’ve said.
