M/s. Pollyanna

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Old ship, rusty hull plying obscure ports,
manned by a last chance crew, her master
is a shadow only seen in moonlight.

Warm Caribbean sky, intense blue sea
her engine stopped and she drifted onto
a rock, sank in the afternoon with a crew
that had lost the will to live.

Silent sea tells no tale, but in the night
shadows rippled moonlit surface,
and seagulls flew on wings of silver.
