Cyclone in Orissa

a poem by Remigius de Souza

I

The evening is dark and heavy
With floods of high tide on the shore-
end of the land
Face to face with infinite waters
On the shores of deep oceans
Awaiting final salvation:
That, only that can bring it
To life infinite
In the final dissolution.

II

Away from the articulate
Refinement in raw aborigine state
The union of land and waters
upholds values
Of the life eternal.
You are blessed, oh, eternal
Springs of mother earth
Hidden under the weight
Of hundred millennia.
It is only the earthlings
Busy keeping accounts of
Centuries.
