The Day of Reckoning

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Mangled dreams litter the road to Damascus
tears on barbed wire are spikes of defiance
as thoughts fly from the free
to those who are sheltering in the land of easy conformity.
Where the ignorant clap
when their leader, seethe banalities,
while children of a lesser breed play with spent uranium shells,
but this too shall come to an end,
the oppressed will arise
and flatten edifices built for the worship of mammon.
