Nothing

a poem by Anup Chandran V

Enraptured by the glory of the glorious one,
Do not fail to see the glorious one.
The glory has lotus shaped eyes.
The glorious one has none at all.
The glory preaches, practices and at times pretends
The glorious one does nothing at all.
The glory empathises, emphasises and entices,
The glorious one evinces nothing at all.
The glory keeps one away from the glorious one.
Beware the glory, the ephemeral “maya”.
YET if you see through the glory,
and look into the glorious one,
you may see the bloom of a thousand lotuses,
and yet you might see NOTHING.
You are what you seek,
You seek what you do not have,
You do not have, what you do not know,
You do not know, what you cannot perceive,
You can not perceive, what is beyond you.

You who seek the glory,
you will one day bask in it.
And you will realise even then,
that a milestone, is never a mile.
That even a mile is nothing.

Never can you encompass nothing,
never can you envelop nothing,
never can you try to be nothing,
for nothing never exists,
Nothing is just that, nothing.

The beautiful, wonderful nothing,
The all understanding compassionate nothing,
The beginning and end of everything,
The lovely, lovely, lovely nothing.

If you can see nothing with your eyes,
feel nothing inside of you,
perceive nothing outside,
love nothing or hate nothing,
you will have achieved nothing.
Nothing, nothing at all, nothing.

If you can realise that you can never BE nothing,
that you ARE nothing,
then nothing remains WITH you.
Nothing relates to you,
nothing is relevant to you.
Nothing effects you, you effect nothing,
Nothing pains you, you pain nothing,
Nothing possesses you, you possess nothing,
Nothing was ever yours, you were ever nothing.

Nothing revels in joy, joy revels in nothing,
Nothing drowns in sorrow, sorrow drowns nothing,
Nothing was ever yours, you were ever nothing.
Everything in nothing,
the nothing in everything.
