Happy Faces

a poem by Ayush Verma

The deafening noise began ahead of the signal turning red
And swiftly came the young boys and girls like a brood of hens
I pondered “What they won’t do for a loaf of bread?”
Cleaning windows, polishing the hood even selling pens

From the car before few kids got a balloon, a kind gift
The smile on their faces was as wide as blue sky above
From vague to ecstatic there was a sudden shift
Poverty and suffering concealed before their love

At last, all our goals aren’t same
Amidst the world trying to win races
Running after money, power and fame
Nothing shone brighter than their happy faces.
