Sisira

a poem by Gummadapu Narasimha Rao

Sisira, the last and sixth season of the year
Conglomeration of January-February dear,
Magha and Phalguna, concluding months
Union of old-new faiths,
Climatic change from bitter cold to radiant
Dawn Sun rises and dusk Sun sets eminent,
Anxious to finish old as eager for that new
Grass tip pearls of dew,
Summer ahead and the hydro threats begin
Off of Indian Year, owes to English benign.

Shedding folio sign of arid and rain forests
Flower buds flush out just moon crescents,
Synthesis of starch, stoops in natural hosts
Plants look like ghosts,
Harvest ends, peasants ready for nurseries
Flower blooming boosts honey collections,
Closure of season! sprouts fresh functions
Ready nascent actions,
Creepers and meadows fade, bright vigour
Whole Flora, turns shade of gold in colour.

All welcome Indian New Year with delight
Dreams and desires aspire for future bright,
Taughts prepare well to final examinations
Athletes at inspirations,
Migrated birds back, respective habitations
Cattle to deltas to cater straw off starvation,
Arid people prefer fertile spots for survival
Yore year for farewell,
Events main remain as historic components
Welcome to Happy New Year complements.
