Standing at the Heaven’s door,
God once asked me for a grace,
I was overjoyed for I could ask no more,
So I thanked Him and gave a praise.
“Let me ask for NAME,
Or shall I ask for FAME;
But none of them will remain the same,
Such a grace can really put me to shame.”
“Let me demand Him of MONEY,
No doubt, I am penniless and don’t have a penny;
But if I have it today, tomorrow I won’t have any,
I surely remember this lesson given by my granny.”
So I thought of asking something unusual,
Something which would be unique and very special.
So I thought God to return me my yester-years,
When life was a merry affair, and my spirit full of cheers.
He gave me a gentle smile and said,
“Child, ask for something else instead;
This wish of yours I cannot make come true,
I bless you now to ask for graces two.”
So, I decided to be a bit intellectual,
And ask for something which is more spiritual;
I pleaded Him to send peace on earth
Let everyone be happy, and live with mirth.
Then I requested Him to spread love,
Through the oceans, mountains and skies;
Let not an inch of hatred prevail,
Over the lows or over the highs.
Once again God smiled at me and said,
“Child ask for something else instead;
This wish of yours I cannot make come true,
I bless you now to ask for graces two.”
God left for me a decent proposal,
Leaving four wishes at my disposal,
“Make hearts of gold of those who are atheist,
And hearts of silver of those who are racist,
Let there be no place for hunger or poverty,
No strife for any cause, save the world from indemnity.”
Painfully, God smiled at me and said,
“May you return to your yester-years,
When there weren’t worries, there weren’t tears;
When life for you was a merry affair,
And your spirit so pure, was full of cheer.”
