A Yearly Struggle

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Early spring and once more
The almond blossoms bloom
And fall, silky snow on the lane
I walk to work.

Blows away in a few days, but
Stays long enough for the Nordic
Princess to smile again and not
Feel homesick anymore.

Every year I try to write about
Those ugly trees which in spring
Make the landscape beautiful,
But fail miserably.

Hush, let nature speak! What?
OK, but I wish I were a painter
Who could breathe purple hue?
On silky white and smile.
