To my distant Love

a poem by Lakshminarayana K

Welcome my love, fairy in a dream;
Adorn my life with pearls of love.
Gladly come to fulfill my dream;
May elixir pour from the sky above.

My life is lost in grief repressed
On crude waves, burnt alive in fire.
Bring me Eden, rich, love-caressed;
Enrich my ardent, passionate desire.

Into this battle of fury and strain
Bring me the olives of peace and light.
Heal my wounds, relieve me of pain,
Fill up time’s gaps with moments bright.

In life I see the tints of death;
Gloomy nights I feel at noon!
Come unannounced, give me new breath;
Brighten my land with many a moon.

My adolescent dreams I scarcely forget,
But youthful vigour I hardly keep up.
A circle of darkness with hues of sunset
Make me a fly, wriggling in a tea cup.

Behold mine eyes – pale, dry, deep;
My brows are moist with unknown fear.
How sour the forbidden fruits I reap!
How sharp the petals, like thorns, o dear!

The softest moonbeams scorch me; I cry;
Let the night send forth its coolness, o dear!
Let the breeze murmur and play, sans a sigh,
A lyric on this lyre sweet to hear.

Vapourised my body, as are the raindrops,
By the wrath of the burning sun, o dear!
Each thought of mine that floats, soon flops,
For each dead thought I drop a tear.

Please make, with your love, my path smooth
And help me, to weather tempests unseen.
Hardly realising the secrets of truth,
Like bushes, my hopes had grown so green.

I’m left alone by the cemetery of grief;
A corniced mound waits patiently for me.
Sterile my thoughts sans manure of relief;
My moods throw ashes in the space meant for me.

Be not deaf-eared to all my cries
Nor blindfold yourself to avoid seeing me;
I’ll sing of our love right up to the skies;
Your longed-for face let me more see.
