Soon it’s, It was!

a poem by Jayati

Our nursery teacher Mary gave stars all correct, kindergarten days,
it was school books, brownpaper covers,
daddy wrote names mummy hugged us
“Three Musketeers,”
It was hill stations summer vacations, family get togethers
months into years
laughter, sunshine, happiness,
it was division one laurels
earned flying colours
Graduate Honours
single mission It was
life’s ambition – honest profession, team work, annual day function;
reward, award, promotion – It was
Past tense, real remains
‘Mid-summer Night’s Dream’
‘Comedy of Errors’
As if It was
Stoic present whisper soft
Time still, today real and soon it’s; It was!
