Running Away

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Alone in the room
I demanded silence,
but voices kept intruding
and eyes that had been hurt by my harsh words
darted about like shadows on an outer walls on a spring day
when clouds and sun vie for my attention.
Can’t you see that I’ve sealed the door to my past
I’ve reinvented myself
and will not remember you!
Go!
The eyes paled,
voices faded
and the silence became unbearable.
