Life

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Awoke, spooked, looked at
My wristwatch, the phosphorous
Dial said ten to four in the morn.
Eyes wide open bedroom dark
And fear of death was intense.
She, beside me, breathed evenly
And I snuggled up to her warm
Comforting body. She stirred,
We cuddled and had lazy sex.
Death left and through curtains
First light of spring seeped in.
