Choices

a poem by Tanya Mirchandani

I look around me, at my life
Past and present, old and new
The life within me, the life without
What is there to see?

Our lives are ours,
We make it happen
We create it.
One choice at a time

Are we aware of what we choose
And what we are creating?
The choice and the consequences
Are only of our making.

What kind of life do we want?
What kind of person are we?
Today’s choices make our tomorrows
Will they make us happy?

The winds of life
They blow around us
Destination unknown
And out of our control

But like the hawk that rides the winds
Without seeking to control it
The winds are there, how will we ride them?
The answer lies in our choices.
