Another Accident

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Late evening, fine rain
a car hits the dividing barrier on the motorway,
its driver struggles to get out,
too late the car explodes.
Suddenly the m-way is full of cars
driving very slowly passed.
Motorists fascinated
watch a funeral pyre
and the night is scarred by blue lights and sirens.
Flames are doused,
a blanket covers remains.
Nothing more to see,
head home for tea.
