A Loss

a poem by Pooja Amin

A meeting for acquaintance, a smile proceeding forth.
A hand for friendship, a hug for comfort.
A vow made of trust, a result made of dust.
Words of anger attack, actions retaliate back.
The love is gone, the trust is broken.
Words held back remain unspoken.
Hopes shattered, friendship’s meaning scattered.
The pain unseen, of a human being.
Respect and forgiveness were hard to return,
from words of fire that made me burned.
A cloud of rain poured over my head,
when I was hurt by my very own friend.
The guilt and regret that she tried to express,
to ask for forgiveness after creating a mess.
I forgave, but I couldn’t forget,
the trust she broke by the words she expressed.
Times will not be the same anymore, hoping that she realized,
That harsh words direct pain and even penalize.
A border line she has crossed, and gained nothing but one friend lost.
