Neither a borrower, nor a lender be…

a poem by Shah Pravinchandra Kasturchand

The moon was shining, silvery and bright,
Stars were there with the faded light;
Still on earth, it was a sleeping night,
It was pitch dark, and hardly any bright.

Why is it so? I always asked myself.
Why is it so? You please ask yourself.
If you know it, keep it closed to you,
Or tell me alone and I will love you.

The sun is one and the sky is vast,
Vacuum from sky to earth is aghast;
When sun glides up, stars run away,
When it looks up, nights miles away.

The moon, eternal borrower of light he,
The stars, though many in number be;
When sun shines, away moon and star,
Away deep and dark, away far and far.
