Slowly and Steadily

a poem by Christuraj Alex

Slowly and slowly, slowly yet, steadily,
Mind and soul and body polish;
Optimistic; eyes opened, focused fully,
No mirages; paths straight, stylish;
Yet, not like the choir of scholars, evenly,
The unique oneness we relish!
Slowly and slowly; slowly, yet, steadily,
Our mission we will accomplish!

Slowly and slowly, slowly, yet, steadily,
Goals ever new we’ll establish;
Tasks our ancestors left done incompletely,
We’ll take up and gladly finish;
Virtues and values handed over gently,
We shall care and soothe and nourish;
Slowly and slowly; slowly, yet, steadily,
Our mission we will accomplish!

Slowly and slowly, slowly, yet, steadily,
Hills, and vales and seas so lavish;
We’ll work tirelessly; accept tasks daringly,
No indolence our toils tarnish!
Summer or winter; Sun or shower; freshly,
Joys in our hearts always flourish!
Slowly and slowly; slowly, yet, steadily,
Our mission we will accomplish!

Slowly and slowly, slowly, yet, steadily,
Vain vices vividly vanish;
Divisions of caste, creed, and ethnicity,
Will awfully soon diminish;
Hearts happy, spirits fresh, gently, serenely,
Breathe of purity we’ll, now, wish;
Slowly and slowly; slowly, yet, steadily,
Our mission we will accomplish!

Slowly and slowly, slowly, yet, steadily,
Human dignity we’ll cherish!
Who’s great? Who’s small? None, of course, manifestly,
Inequalities relinquish!
Caring, sharing, we’ll realize cheerfully,
Our new-heaven-new-earth wish-dish!
Slowly and slowly; slowly, yet, steadily,
Our mission we will accomplish!
