Dear soldier why did you die,
Not in wartime but during peace,
Now uncared you lie on the street,
Beside that terrorist you killed.
You saved lives but none knows,
We are busy feeding the crows,
Miniscule lines of you are written,
Below a picture of the film star’s new kitten.
Why die for all of us,
We, who live in a four-walled world,
You could have lived on, regardless,
Closed the door, bolted the latch.
Dear soldier why did you die,
Who will live the dreams you left behind,
How will your son survive,
In this spineless, heartless land.
