Independence Day’ 97

a poem by Vidhya Jayarama Raja

A pinch of salt
An empire crumbled
Amidst the rubble
We sit stupefied
Snared by political yarn
Awaiting to build
An edifice.
After the midnight hour
The world awoke
The giant slumbers on
The flag flutters free
Bonds yet to be broken
The Indian awaits independence
Freedom a farce?
