The Presence of Poetry

a poem by Mary Mathew

Poetry is a divine experience showing
Mankind was blessed by God.
There is no need to search for it.
For it is present within this world.

It is gushing in the bank of the rippling stream
Or under the shielding shade of the banyan tree.

It is in the desolation of the wilderness
Or in the blushing of the bashful sunset.

It is in the caressing of the roving wind
Or in the mysticism of the green woods.

It is in the song of the nightingale
Or in the beauty of the green valley.

It is in the lullaby of a mother’s love
Or in the tragedy of a love story.

To write verses poetry seeks no mood
For nature is its personification.
There shall never be another poem
Written by man as beautiful as nature.
