If only I was granted a wish

a poem by Soumava Bhattacharyya

If only I was granted a wish,
I would fly to an island,
where there would be no one,
but music and me.
I would dance to the tunes,
and go splashing into the water,
no one to disturb, nothing to worry about,
just eternity and me.

If only I was granted a wish,
I would go to heaven,
far-far away from the deafening crowd.
I would dance with the angels,
and play hide-n-seek in the clouds.
I would be the king there,
with everyone offering me something or the other.
I would be so happy out there,
with no restrictions and with nothing to bother.

If only I was granted a wish,
I would love to make another,
only to make another.
But who’s going to listen to my wishes,
nobody in the world seems to bother.
I wish I had a life full of love and care,
where everyone needed me and gave me a listening ear,
then perhaps I would not have wished for anything more.
