Let us be strangers

a poem by Chetan Bhatia

Goodbye forever and ever,
For we don’t have anything to share;
This friendship was a mutual mistake,
Don’t blame me for everything,
Trust me, it is not fair.

I have nothing to talk to you,
I have no words to say;
My honesty and my thoughts are crap for you,
Cos you believe I am just a messenger,
What everybody else feels, I convey.

Yes I can be sometimes blunt and honest,
Yes my jokes are out of line;
But before you entered my kingdom,
“DON’T TAKE IT TO HEART, TOO HARD”,
Didn’t you read that sign.

I always fancied that I was unpredictable,
I took pride that I was unorthodox;
I was famous for my mystery,
The fact that I was always out of the box.

But when it came to you,
I didn’t feel very good;
By your reference and mood,
I felt bad and uncomfortable,
For I was misunderstood.

For all the evils in the world,
According to you I was to be blamed;
If something my friends did wrong,
Why should I feel guilty and ashamed?

Perhaps it was you,
Or maybe it was me;
Whatever it was however it was,
One thing is sure,
We lost us and we.

From now on let us not bother each other,
Let us not make a vain attempt,
To look for the lost friendship we can’t find;
Let us act as complete strangers,
Let us be courteous and nice,
And listen to each other like we use to,
With a smile and an open mind.
