Friends

a poem by Maryse Saldanha

What do I do when I feel low?
All seems downward going
No sense of direction I know

What do you do when the day seems less bright?
Dreary thoughts cloud your mind
No one seems to be in sight

I call out to him he is always near
Just give him a tinkle
And hear the voice I hold dear

I call out to her she is there for me
With her I can let down my guard
And I can be what is me

They complain not when on their shoulder I cry
At times I am rude
They just let it go by

They give me compassion they give me their time
I feel loved when with them
They give me a different high

My affection for them grows with each day
They are my precious gems
And with them I feel blest

They are my friends whom I cherish for life
I love and care for them
Without them I couldn’t possibly get by
