Wonders of the Creator

a poem by Veena Damodar

My window overlooks a mini wood,
My morning cuppa, I relish,
Watching nature in its hectic mood,
What a sight to see the bees, birds, squirrels rush,
One is spellbound at the brisk activity.
Two tiny birds draw my attention,
I watch them sharing their affection
Whispering sweet nothings!
Swaying along the branches in the warmth of the sun,
Enjoying the occasional pitter-patter too.

Rays of powdered sunlight dawn my room,
I peep out, to see my friends busy putting their hearts and home together,
For their new arrivals!
Flying past my window sill, picking up twigs, cotton,
Weaving a warm home with coir.
Sharpness of the beak entwines the coir, twigs, cotton,
For a cosy comfort for the unborns- four little eggs.

My joy knew no bounds,
When over my cuppa, my eyes fell upon,
The cute chicks, cuddled in the warmth comfort created for them,
Ah, the maternal instincts! Feeding, protecting, nurturing.

Visitors surround the home,
Mama mia! careful as a watchdog,
Overtly concerned of her fledgelings, acts as a sheet anchor!
I stood astounded at the marvels of motherhood!

Days pass by, the little fledgelings,
Spread their wings to take their first flight,
Hesitant, but confident,
Slowly and steadily they fly out of sight.
A complete cycle I visualize,
Amazing are the ways of the CREATOR!
