An Appeal

a poem by Jayati

I shall come to your house
Will you turn me out?
I’ll wait eagerly for your response
Will you answer the door?
I’ll be nervous and weak
Will you call me in?
Arms stretched to embrace
As I touch your feet
Helping me to rise?
At a glance
You would know
Why I have come!
Knowing thus
Would you say?
“Son you’re welcome.”
