Children Home

a poem by Sankhajit Bhattacharjee

Both are working.
Hubby earns more,
so he never manages home.
Wife balances both.
Working hours are same,
so altogether wife works more.
‘If you can’t balance, you quit your service’.
She can’t quit her job.
She can’t quit her family.
They are blessed with a daughter.
But he never looks back.
She is cursed.

None knows where the story will end.
The little princess has got a maid-
if the latter remains absent,
she cries alone all day.

When she becomes two,
she finds a new address at Children Home.
