Loneliness

a poem by Sebastian Paulk

Loneliness stood nestled
In the distant mountains
Lying in wait for my gloomy nights,
Chances nay did I give.
I gadded from party to party,
Reveling my days waste,
Heeded not thy cold hands,
Cuddling myriad gladsome lives.
When you came knocking to trice,
Fought you off with indulgence,
Down many happy moons,
I find your arms around me!
The resonance of your faint breath,
Hated and kept in abeyance all along,
Soothes me like soft music,
Who’s rhythm I hate.
You comfort me with your eerie calm,
Nay, I abhor this alliance,
Yet the thought of parting bathes cold,
And I wake up to find we’re friends!
