Those Dreams Again

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Waking up suddenly,
no, she is still beside me!
my, wife breathing evenly.
Guilty again
dreaming of making love to my neighbour’s wife,
the bible has a stern word to say about that.
Fall asleep and dream of Maria I met in Buenos Aires,
My God, what a stallion
I’m making love to two women in one night!
In a dreamy state
reflect that if I kiss her awake
and make love to her
will she sense that I’m really loving
all the women of the world?
It’s morning can smell coffee,
she sits in the kitchen
leafing through a glossy magazine
“Did you sleep well darling?
you where tossing and turning a lot.”
“Slept like a log” I lie
“didn’t even dream.”
