On the death of a dear one

a poem by Ramesh T A

On the All Souls Day everyone remembers the death of the dear ones;
So, I write this special mourning message to my dear ones today
On the death of the dear one, especially the last one forever so soon!
The death of a dear one indeed deeply wounds the heart sometimes!
But what to do, it is not in our hands to know before the death of anyone to stop!

The date of birth we know but not the date of death before,
Because birth is in our hands but death is in His hands!
What to do, we think one thing but some other thing happens sometimes!
Unexpected things happen suddenly which we have to bear whether we agree or not;
That is the thing we can do; otherwise there is no other go!
So we have to be consoled with whom we are with and compensate for the loss;
That is how human life has to be lived in the world as long as we live!

It seems it’s impossible to know the cause of death though there is no chance for death!
It’s a great irony that death comes sooner for some unexpected and later for some expected!
Sooner or later death is sure though sooner the better for some and better late for some than never!
So everyone is born with a cause and until one fulfills the mission of life one lives; that is all!
For, we are judged not by the duration of our life but only by the deed of our life!

Immediately after India’s Independence, Gandhi was slain by assassin’s bullets means that he was born only for that!
The All Powerful Jesus died of crucifixion means that his mission of life in the world was over!
So when the time of birth comes not even a single second the child remains in the mother’s womb;
So also when the time of death comes nobody can live even a single second longer in the world!
The death knell of one is the birth bell of another one as that is the way of the world for men as decreed by God!

So what is the use of crying over the spoilt milk rather than wiping clean for a new start?
Attachment makes one feel deeper than the limit of one’s heart which is not a wise man’s act!
In the world if one door closes another door opens for the one who has faith in God’s grace!
The demise of the dear one, though difficult to digest, dissolves to normality as days pass on;
But the disappearance of the loved ones, one after the other, is a difficult thing to dissolve into nothing in the human life!

Though the loved ones disappear, the memory lingers on needing drastic diversions to erase it in the mind!
So the best thing would be to divert one’s attention on Art or Nature to forget oneself it its Beauty or Spirit;
That could be the best way to feel new experience in the exploration of bliss ever lasting and enduring in the world
Leading one to know intellectual pleasure in the discovery of reality and realise spiritually the Ultimate Reality at last!
In that way the ideas of the loved ones will lead one to gain eternal bliss bright and beautiful
Making immaterial the birth or death of mere human body as nothing before the absolute bliss of the eternal state of the spirit,
Upon which only one’s love should be rather than on the perishing nature of things that are not perfect and permanent!
