One in a Billion!

a poem by Rajah Iyer S

I am the One
One in a Billion!
Believe me my Friends,
How Great I feel I can’t describe!
Doctors and Nurses
Ministers and Jokers
Pandits and Peasants
Across the World they came!
Even Sensex saluted Bowing Down a bit by 58!
Caste was Forgotten!
Creed was ignored!
Chocolates Galored!

A few years went by
I felt I am an Indian
Tho’ it mattered little when I was born!
The same Ministers and Jokers
Came and Coaxed
Not with Chocolates or Candies
That I must support their cause
To cast my vote for the one on their Castes!
I was stunned in Silence, Believe me my Friends!

On I went on hunting for a Seat
Turned back from Colleges everywhere
Quota Fixed for Admission too they said
Let it be 2020 it can’t be 5050!

Little did I know about Gandhi when I was born
Nor did I heard of Mother Theresa,Till later on
Did I read a bit about them, tho’ not in School Books!
I realised I must be a proud Indian
At least for the Goodness in them!
Appalled was I to see others so Hypocritic!
Agonising to watch many with Hands Full!

Till I met the other day Rekhi from Valley
He said ‘Dear, come Home to India
Gandhi Nagar indeed is on the Coast
Sublime surroundings
Curry to the Asking
Indians help Indians!
Casteless Creedless
They care for each other to make Billions!’

I didn’t take him serious
Till I got my Degree from Delhi
They said it is worth nothing but **it
‘Why’ innocently I asked in amazement,
‘Cause, there are Million on the Waiting List!’

I gave a ring to Rekhi again
I have an idea that can turn out
Poor unemployed Millions to a Billion Worth
He said he will meet me on time at 8
Promptly he came in crumpled Tie!
Said loved my Idea of one in a Million
Making PCs for the Billion
Cheap and useful, the Ministers never understood!

Now I am making a Billion
Thanks to Rekhi & Co
One among the Billion
Ofcourse I am an Indian
In Gandhinagar on the Coast
Silly it might be but its a Valley!
