My India

a poem by Sathya N K

She is the oldest, dating back to five thousand years, today hugging 35 provinces
with 104 cr beings, nattering 17 languages belonging to seven religions.
The largest democracy, after the foray’s of Arab, Turks, Europeans and British,
Yes, she is my “India” the sacred motherland I cherish.
Rich in culture, human values, heritage, tangled with morality, ethics and love,
A emotionally bound children who show their respect for elders even now.
Dreamland holding diverse traditions yet woven with warmth and compassion at ease
It’s my “India” who taught the rest of world all about non-violence and peace.
She bears 32,87,590 sq km, dwelling one of the seven wonders of world,
The largest rail network 63,518 km and highways 33,19,644 km operate bold
Noble souls, Buddha’s, Gandhi’s Teresa’s has emerged for betterment of mankind
From this great country of thine, Hindustan” which is only one of its kind
She tussles with the 1.4% population growth, where in 59.5% are illiterate
With 8.8% un-employed where economy bears 5.4% inflation rate.
Carrying the burden of poverty, scarcity, illiteracy and irritant neighbour
pollution, lack of good infrastructure, infighting and political dis-order
Yet, this Indo Aryan culture had bathed in many moment’s of glory
Like the progress made in space to software which cannot remain an untold story.
Housing thousands of cricket crazy citizens coupled with cinemagoers galore
Spicy food, colourful clothes, variety ornaments, tropical monsoon and artistic shore
Nowhere can one find such a holy country with this variety.
A land of many a myth and blend of modern and traditional society.
