The Wish

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Beside a large bull elephant
A graceful impala munched
Savannah grass.
The elephant sighed, wished
It could be so slender and
Elegant and lumbered by an
Unsightly trunk.
The graceful impala sighed,
Stopped grazing and looked
Admiringly up at the elephant’s
Vast flank, wished it could be
That big and fear no one.
Both sighed in unison.
