King Cobra

a poem by Lakshminarayana K

Cobra, cobra, doing nice dance,
Who taught you that mating dance?
A charming neck whip-tail, a chance
Can I pipe when you dance?

A charmer only enthralls you
But we’re often afraid of you,
In rage or fear at once you hiss
Enfeeble us to dire distress.

Escape and climb-down the trees,
You oft ride through the grass and leas,
Search all bushes for your prey,
And hurl your eyes when we pray.

Kite, peacock, mongoose your foes,
We old and young worship in woes,
He, who, made your venomous brain,
Made the rose with honey, sans stain.

Cakes and eggs we offer you,
Bottles of milk is too for you,
A mortal child of an immortal life
Why don’t you wish us longer life.
