A Spring Day

a poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

A camel walked by my window,
dogs barked. A Bengali tiger looked
in and licked the glass. Monkeys sat
on elephants and laughed into their
flapping ears. Nodding ponies and swishing tails.
Stilt-walkers, acrobats
and red nosed clowns.
A big-bellied man, with an ox whip
in his hands, strode in front of
the procession. Fragrance of exotic animals
and daring acts! It’s April,
circus time.
