An Autumn Squall

a poem by Ranjit Narayanan

The rain clouds gathered upon the horizon
Peeping from over the shoulders of the distance
A gentle breeze blew across her face
Toying with the curls beneath which her face lay
The darkness engulfed the sky quickly
As grey clouds soon covered the fiery evening orb
All at once she felt the rain drops upon her cheeks
The squall came upon her in a flash
Drenching her heart and her soul
And before she knew it from within she shivered
Remembering of a time so very long ago
Of a summer rain that had drenched her then,
Inundating her heart with yearnings she never knew she had
But that was so long ago and was it right to covet them now
For many a summers elapsed between now and then!
