Diamonds

a poem by Venkataramanan D

A woman’s only choice
A poet’s priceless metaphor
A craftsman’s greatest challenge
A jeweller’s prized trophy
A suicide’s potential deliverer
A tool to cut
A joy to be worn
A gift coveted by many

Imperfection
To perfection

Dust
To the highest
Peaks of worthiness

Life of a stone
Speaks several stories.

They shine
Kill
And
Sparkle.

Paragon of beauty
Brilliance
Determination
Perfection.

The most coveted
The most sought after
The most wonderful jewel
The dream of every woman

Diamonds!
A few possess them
Many are possessed
By them.

Lover’s gift
When given as a present.
Death’s friend when
Taken in.
Diamonds!
Gaze into them
You are in a
World of mystery.

It is simply
a stone.

Diamonds!
Poets, lovers
And women
Are in love with
Them.

Diamonds!
Glittering Stones

They speak a
Million languages.
