Friendship

a poem by Tanya Mirchandani

A beautiful word, a beautiful emotion
But what does it really mean?
Two people that cross paths
Two souls that meet
Instant recognition.

Fragile and delicate
A moment in time
Strong and enduring
A lifetime of dreams
A lifetime of sharing

Giving and taking
Laughter and pain
A shoulder to lean on
To wipe away the tears
Replaced with a smile

In this life fraught with danger
Fraught with uncertainty
Unhappiness and fear
A moment together
Sharing the pain, sharing the joy.

In new and old
Happy and sad
Friends are the joy
That makes those moments bearable
And keeps the smile alive.
