Loneliness

a poem by Suvir Mirchandani

Memories
Of everything that we shared
Dreams
Of our future together
All securely locked up, or so I believed
Hidden deep in the invisible reservoirs of my mind
Buried in the mundane routine of everyday life
Latent
Until
That familiar song, a haunting fragrance, nostalgic thought
The dam bursts wide open
Sweeping away my fragile defenses
And I drown
In a whirlpool of sweet painful emotion
Choking on the tears that wet my pillow
Cold and
Alone
