Surrender

a poem by Smita Ramani

I sit there by myself as the blue turns grey,
And the beauty of the golden apple drowning in the endless ocean,
Is beyond any words I can say,
With the gentle waves washing my feet,
And the tingling taste in my mouth as the salty Water and my lips Meet,
The cool breeze gently caressing my hair,
And the silver light shining on me from the fair maiden up there,
All of these gave me an inexperienced sensation,
And all of a sudden I gave up all my anxieties and tensions.
I sat there thinking about my lonely and monotonous daily life,
Where I learnt that you’ve got to be the best and the strongest to Survive,
But in this run for fame and survival,
Something much more important than existence has been forgotten,
I’ve forgotten about someone I really wanted to be,
Someone buried inside me, who I can really call me.
Today when I sit by the Oceanside,
Thinking about all the missed opportunities gone by,
When I could have said a few words of love and support,
To the ones I really care for,
And the ones I neglected in this endless
Race for more,
I determine never to repeat this blunder of mine,
And to enjoy and cherish every moment with passing time,
Because what I have learnt today, is that,
The one thing in the world that is more valuable than all the glory, fame and money,
Is the love shared by my family,
And the time I give to me!
