Life – My Own Way

a poem by Shekher Mudgal

A man of Royal command and literary gene,
Once said that world was a stage,
And that all men and women were merely players,
Such voices as do always, become a living, motivating rage,

Everybody has different views,
And this one is not an exception,
But this literary legend failed to convey,
A lot of what is in my imagination,

Shakespeare his name was, and he indeed shook the Earth, (Shakesphere)
With what was in his ingenious pen,
But today the keyboard which types this poem,
Will give a new opinion other than that of such men,

The World’s a playground and all of us creatures here,
Are gifted with free will to play any game any way,
But the Lord makes the rules of each game,
And if we cheat, we pay,

Ten days of joy and happiness are more valuable,
Than the whole life of Worldly living,
Because in these traps we engage ourselves,
And then realize the elegance of nature pleasure giving,

Childhood, Teenage, Adulthood, Middle Age, and Old Age,
Are all alike and enjoyable on one condition,
If we live every moment of life as joyful as can be,
All these ages are one, unlike the Shakespearean tradition,

So ladies and gentlemen, players of the Lords’ playground,
Or maybe the actors of Shakespeare’s stage,
It’s you, who god leaves upon the duty of defining life,
So thee be not a Pantaloon even in your Old age!

(P.S. – This poem is a reply to Shakespeare’s all time classic ‘The Seven Ages’)
