The people in our lives…

a poem by Shashi Krishna

The bond of a lifetime
It seemed as they spent the days,
A sense of belonging that prevailed,
Seeking
The unknown and rats in the race.

The perfect trio; there for each other,
With each passing day they grew
A little wiser, a little stupid,
Counting
The wings of the dreams that flew.

They found love and they found grief,
They found tears and fears,
They found the tree of infinite hope,
Sitting
Beneath which they had their beers.

There were the fights and scenes galore,
Each one fighting his own,
And then there was the place of joy they knew,
Being
In which would reset their tone.

Coming of age was hard as always,
As they drifted towards shores apart,
The journey was there but on different routes,
Changing
The shape of each one’s start.

Destiny played its card perfect
And led one to a distant land,
Another fought the war of the youth,
Standing
Alone was the third lonely hand.

They live today in each other’s hearts,
With patience for the clearing mist,
Smiling on memories that bonded them,
Ending
Them up in some mailing list.
