Our yester Wonder

a poem by Ramya JP

Gone are our schooldays
that yester wonder forever and ever,
With cherishing memories prisoned in our hearts
that which time cannot steal.
Knowledge, character are the gems that we acquired;
Of life-long bosom friends who care and share
And lo! how many chides and appreciation
From teachers who pat and understand;
An abode of love, patience, equanimity and enthusiasm.

There seems to be a longing for each day
-to meet our bonded friends,
And indeed holidays… a curse in contrary!
Well you may wonder why?
It parts us by hours…
Of course we do much at school
blushing smiles, hearty giggles, hours of chat,
busy whispers, silly excuses, funny cartoons…
an endless list
And indeed sincere grasping of lessons
That paved each brick in building our ambition.

What we are now,
Is but a dream of the past…
Inculcated and rooted in those carefree days,
When we had nothing to worry or whine:
I miss breathlessly those days of playful innocence
And of friends whom we are parted by miles;
Be it nature’s nemesis or law,
None is righteous to retrieve that golden age back.

But still,
I hopefully wish to turn back the pages of life;
In the quest of searching that exquisite state,
And engraving the memories of our yester wonder
Once again in the path of life:
This longing keeps lingering somewhere
in the innermost recesses of every soul.
