Anirudh, my son

a poem by Rajeev Menon

You are my hearts best delight
You are my vacant minds flight
You are my debilitated souls might
You are my only brightest light

You bring forth meaning to my life
You usher in happiness during strife
You are the soulful melody of my fife
With you around, boundless joy is rife

You are my pristine morning dew
You are your mothers, dream come true
For you, strain I shall every sinew
I shall for you, anything eschew

You are the apple of my eye
The splendid star of my blue sky
As each moment seems to go by
Says your mom, He’s grown up Oh my!

When you tread, nature makes a bow
The fiery sun adds to your lustrous glow
The rivers murmur, and hasten their flow
And many a maiden does sleep forego

When the wind plays with your hair
Making it fall, on your charming face so fair
The damsels whisper, without a care
Among men, he is the true solitaire

When with gloom, my mind is clad
Your handsome radiance, renders me glad
Every moment I cherish, being your dad
You are the greatest son, a father’s ever had.
