The School

a poem by Rajah Iyer S

Often I wonder
A Bagfull of Books
Bussed you at eight
Mechanical it might!

Shoes that shines
Batches Polished
Challenges admonished
Tied you in Style!

If its a Birthday
There ought to be a party
Wherever naughty
Kids dance around Chocolates!

If its a Holiday
There has to be a Picnic
In Stylish cars
Faraway on shores!

Alas! Behold the lad from there
Crossing all Seas
To catch the train at Six
To be on time at Noon!

Amidst the trains that connect
Only twice in Two Days
He goes in Faith
That will take him one Day!

If He has been given the
Bussing of Today
Tieing of Styles
What would he be?

Abul Kalaam and others
Who crossed such Seas
To reach some School
Twice a Week, amazes me!

Is it the School that makes
A man in you
Or is it the Will in you
Maketh the School?

Have I heard
Is it Lalbahadur who would
Swim across the Ganges
Wetting the Books?

Or is it Nanda the PM
W’d wash his clothes
Cook his own Food
Confined in a solitary Cell?

Values in Life
Values of Gurus
Values of you
Maketh the School!
