a poem by Porthos

I dreamt of you yesterday
why do I always
live in the past
why can’t bygones be bygones
why does memory last

Why can’t I learn to forget
the sorrows and tears
the heartaches big and small
the wonders of yesteryears
why do I them recall

Is there something wrong
somewhere in my heart
or is the memory strong
too strong for me to part
am I very weak
to break all these ties
Oh! why don’t you speak
and answer all my whys…

(how long should the handkerchief of the eyes keep
fluttering after you have said adieu?)
