Words

a poem by Nitin Nargund

Everything will have an end
that had a start.
One day or other
everyone has to depart.

Today may be their turn
tomorrow may be ours.
But someday will come
when death will devour.

Bodies die
but the souls remain.
Deeds stick to us
like medals or stain.

So lets keep an account
of things we took and gave.
Lets leave some words
to be carved on our grave.

Words that would bring
tears in someone’s eye.
Words that would live
though we die.

So let’s for the fruits of tomorrow
today we reap.
Let’s enlighten someone’s dawn
before we sleep.
