The Wait

a poem by Apurba Majumdar

I was waiting there
lonely in the crowd,
consoling my heart
that you’ll come, no doubt.

The lights were on everywhere
people were cheering on the ground,
when everyone was enjoying the moments
I was looking for you around.

Time slipped away from my hands
all my hopes were now sinking,
but the eyes never gave up
for you, they’re still waiting.

The thirst remained as it was
but you didn’t come,
the rose dried in my hand
but you never came.
I’m still waiting
and will wait till the end of my life
but know, like this evening
you’ll never come into my life!
